Salt Creek Golf Club, formerly known as The Auld Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Chula Vista, California, just 20 minutes Southeast of Downtown San Diego and Mission Valley.
The Salt Creek golf course first opened for play in 2001. The course was designed by Cary Bickler and John Cook.
The Salt Creek Golf Club is a links style golf course. The course takes advantage of the natural terrain of San Diego County. Salt Creek is located near Mt. Miguel and is nestled next to a State Wildlife preserve. The course has elevated-tees, mountain views and, yes, some ocean views as well.
Salt Creek measures 6,889 yards from the back tees and 5,505 from the forward tees catering to all skill levels. The generous fairways and large greens provide a playable yet demanding golf experience.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,855 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 4,814 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 12, a par-5 that plays to 563 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 3, a par-3 that plays to 163 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 9, a 404 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Salt Creek is # 17, a 179 yard par-3.
The course closed March 18, 2018.
In its closing announcement, the course said that the rising costs of water coupled with fewer golfers, and the fact that the course had lost money since opening in 2000, despite the attempts by the current as well as previous owners’ attempts to make it work signaled that it was time to raise the white flag and close down operations.

Course could use some what... extremely hard fairways; greens were better though quite firm. Tee shot landing areas are pretty generous, though careful placement is necessary given the many sloped fairways. Bring extra balls!

One of the best layouts in San Diego area.

Some of the fairways are undulating & have considerable sloping. It is important the 1st time you play the course, that you get briefed well or better yet play with someone who has played the course before. Additionally, there are multiple holes that you can drive thru the fairway into severe hazards so you must limit the length of the tee shot. DO NOT PUT MY NAME ON ANY MAILING LIST!!!

The attemp of a links style course is admirable but the course doesn't reward quality golf shots due to the inconsistant fairways. You can land a shot in the middle and end up watching the ball roll off the fairway. It depends on the rub of the green in most cases. Yes, it's a nice looking layout, but why spend that kind of money to get beaten up for good play? Too many other course to choose from in my opinion.

Salt Creek is a medium difficulty course that typicaly has good greens, nice fairways and consistently good tees. The only area that has constantly taken high ratings away from this course is the bunkers. They have very little sand and hardpan underneath. Expect to blade a few shots from these mudpits. The course has enough elevation changes and hole variety to keep your interest. The fairways are generous but if you do venture too far off line, expect to be in environmentally sensitive areas. The rates are very reasonable and you can always find some good deals. Pace of play should be about 4 hours but sometimes you get behind inexperienced or etiquette-ly challenged people and then the round stretches to 5 hours. But that seems to be true of all courses. A great place to enjoy a round of golf without spending your entire monthly allowance.

This is a great golf course with a unique layout for San Diego. I put that it is vacation worthy if you are already visiting San Diego, I would not book a trip just to play here though. The course plays hard and fast most of the time and is a great deal for the price. We played on a Saturday and I felt like I was at a private club as the course was wide open. No waiting or backups. Highly recommend

This golf course was always a great idea for the area. It started out years ago but too pricey at the time and ran into trouble. Since though new owners, good condition and great value. Links stlye firm fairways and greens. If the wind blows could be difficult. I dont recommend for the non golfer or beginner. Go find a par 3 course to learn your game.

We went there for a bachelor party with 15 guys and the staff really took care of us. The price was unbeatable for the area, great layout in really good condition and we had a heck of a day there. Definitely would recommend it to anyone looking to play in the San Diego area.
